Frequently Asked Questions on Attendance & Bunks
1. How do I calculate how many classes I need to attend for 75% attendance?
Formula: Classes to attend = ceil((Target% × Total Classes - 100 × Present) / (100 - Target%)). For example, if you attended 35 out of 50 classes (70%), you need to attend the next 10 consecutive classes without missing to achieve 75% (45/60).
2. How many classes can I safely bunk if my attendance is above 75%?
Formula: Safe Bunks = floor((100 × Present - Target% × Total) / Target%). For example, if you attended 50 out of 60 classes (83.33%), you can safely miss the next 6 classes and still hold exactly 75% (50/66).
3. Does medical leave count towards the 75% attendance criteria in colleges?
Most universities (AICTE, UGC, VTU, DU, Mumbai University) allow medical condonation of up to 10%, reducing the required minimum attendance from 75% to 65% upon submitting a valid hospital/registered doctor certificate.
4. Is attendance calculated per subject or cumulatively across the semester?
Most statutory university regulations enforce the 75% rule on each individual theory and lab subject independently to be eligible for semester-end hall tickets.
